Dive Scylla

 


The Royal Fleet Hotel is an affiliated "Friend of Scylla" and is the ideal place to stay for divers wishing to dive the Scylla Reef. The information below details our facilities for divers and also contains information regarding other local facilities / businesses which may be beneficial to the diving community.

OUR FACILITIES

The Royal Fleet Hotel is centrally located and has a Restaurant serving breakfast and evenings meals and packed lunches are availble upon request. The Bar is open during the evenings and vehicles and trailers can be parked securely in our car park, which also has a hosepipe situated in it to enable equipment to be rinsed down. There are also rooms availble to store any equipment securely, hang wet / dry suits to dry or have a pre / post dive briefing.

LOCAL FACILITIES FOR DIVERS

SLIPWAYS

The nearest slipway to us is situated at Richmond Walk  It allows boats direct access to Plymouth Sound and is approximately a1.2 mile journey. DIRECTIONS:- From the Royal Fleet Hotel proceed up to the top of St. Aubyns Road and take a right turn on to Park Avenue. Proceed along this road until you reach a mini-roundabout and continue straight accross on to Chaple Street where a petrol station will be visible on your left. When you reach the next mini-roundabout continue straight accross on to Cumberland Road which leads into Devonport Hill. At the bottom of the hill you will approach a roundabout from which you need to take the right hand turn into a narrow road named Richmond Walk. Continue down this road past Mayflower Marina and Ocean Quay Flats and into a car park - the slipway is situated immediately next to the car park.

Elphinstone Boat Park also has a slipway next to the Harbourmasters Office and is situated just beneath the Barbican Centre near Madeira Road adajcent to Mayflower Sailing Hotel on the Barbican. This slipway also gives direct acces to Plymouth Sound.

DIVING DISEASES RESEARCH CENTRE ( DDRC )

The DDRC is housed in a purpose built centre at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. It specialises in treatment of medical emergencies involving decompression illness, carbon-monoxide poisoning, smoke inhalation, cyanide poisoning and soft tissue infection including necrotising faciitis. The DDRC facilities include one large and two smaller recompression chambers with full environmental control. It also operates a 24 hour emergency advice line giving advice on the assessment and treatment of the above illnesses.
